Overview
BondhuCom, meaning "Computer as a Friend," is designed to make computing accessible to everyone, particularly rural communities. It is a low-cost, versatile solution compatible with CRT TVs, ensuring that digital technology reaches even those who cannot afford modern computers. BondhuCom serves multiple purposes—students use it for learning, youths for earning, and families for entertainment.
Challenges
Digital exclusion remains a significant issue in rural areas due to the high cost of computers and a lack of infrastructure. Many rural citizens face discrimination due to limited access to information, hindering education, employment, and e-governance participation. Schools, too, struggle to integrate ICT into their education systems due to financial constraints.
Solution & Impact
BondhuCom provides an affordable computing solution with essential features like document editing, internet browsing, multimedia support, and e-governance access. It enables ICT integration in schools, fostering digital literacy from an early age. It also helps establish telecenters, allowing rural populations to access critical information on agriculture, healthcare, and government services. Equipped with essential applications and internet access, it empowers rural youth with earning opportunities while making e-governance implementation faster and more effective. BondhuCom is a step toward a digitally inclusive society, ensuring that technology benefits all.
